We all experience personal challenges or issues throughout our lives. We can deal with these times by talking to friends or family or trying to deal with things ourselves. There are times, however, when issues are too much to manage on our own. Sometimes an outside perspective is valuable and seeking support and strategies from a trained professional counsellor can be helpful.
Counselling is a process of talking about and working through issues or situations with a counsellor. I can help you to address your problems in a positive way by helping you to clarify the issues, explore options, develop strategies and increase self-awareness. For some people, just the process of telling their story to a counsellor, and being listened to, is helpful. Sometimes with my client’s permission, I may work in partnership with a medical doctor or other health professionals to give comprehensive and integrated care
Anyone who is struggling with a personal concern can seek counselling. No issue is too big or too small to ask for support. Common issues that people seek my counselling services for include:

Absolutely! I feel that there is a considerable benefit to my clients to offer this option. We can customize your session to best meet your needs and preferences.
Confidentiality is an essential part of any clinical relationship. I will not inform anyone that you are attending sessions with me. If we see each other outside of session time, I will wait for you to acknowledge me if you choose to. All aspects of your participation in clinical services at On the Ground Counselling and Consulting Inc., including the scheduling of appointments, the content of counselling sessions, and any records that we keep, are confidential as outlined by provincial law.
There really is no magic schedule as everyone is so different, as is their situation. Some people choose to come once a week, some come every second week. We will work together to come up with a plan that best meets your needs.
Nope. There is no minimum or maximum number of sessions.
There is not really anything to prepare, just come in and be yourself! There are forms that I can send you ahead of time, or we can do them together in the first session. When you are in the session, be as honest and open as possible. You will likely experience more success if you actively participate in the sessions. Look at coming to counselling as a step to congratulate yourself on and enjoy the investment of time you have made in yourself.
I do not. I believe each person is unique, each session is different, and each person’s situation may evolve over time. I utilize an eclectic approach to counselling psychotherapy which often includes: Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT); Mind-body therapy, Animal assisted psychotherapy, Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) Rogerian/humanist/person-centered therapy; and Solution-focused therapy (SFT).
The first session is a chance for me to get to know a little bit about you and your main reasons you have chosen to come to counselling. There are some forms that we will go over outlining more of what you can expect as a client of my practice and my ethical obligations. My office is a safe, comfortable environment and tea and coffee are always on! I’ll also get to know some of your history, your likes and dislikes, and together we can start to determine what specifically may help you make the best progress in our sessions.
I offer a free 20 minute consultation on the phone or in person to answer any questions you may have, and after that, you can decide if you are interested in scheduling counselling sessions. Send me a message here or give me a call and let me know the best times to reach you. There is absolutely no obligation or hard feelings if you decide not to pursue counselling with me, and the fact you contacted me is 100% confidential.
